Write a brief description of your favorite day trip.
Our favorite trip was to Monet's House & Gardens in early April. Not much was blooming that early in the season but you could still see the trellises & the gardens all ready to welcome spring. We loved the little stream that flowed through the property with the famous Chinese Foot Bridge that spanned it. The inside of the house was beautiful as well. As I remember there was not a tour per se but a docent there to answer any questions & told us some of the history of the place. The trip there was not too long & allowed us to see some of the beautiful countryside & the outskirts of Paris we had not seen yet.
Tell us about your experience at this destination.
Perhaps it was because it was so early in the season but this tour /destination was not overly crowded. The docents & sale people in the museum shop were all pleasant & personable. We combined this half day tour with a half day trip to Versailles. We were somewhat disappointed in Versailles since so much of it was closed (Hall of Mirrors) and not much ( except maybe some of the NON-working fountains) in the gardens was marked so you could learn about the flowers, statuary, etc. However we loved the "typical French lunch" included in the cost of the full day of two tours, which was between tours in the town of Versailles.
Tips and Tricks
- It was somewhat cold to us at this time of year but worth not having enormous crowds everywhere we went. Make sure you bring & dress in layers
- I should have done more homework about this combo tour so I would have known about Versailles. If I ever go again I will bring my own guide book to read about the gardens.
- We took a day long trip to the Normandy Beaches which I would not recommend if you are on a short stay in Paris. Most of the time was taken up just getting there & back. I think we had a new bus driver since he never exceeded about 40MPH. Seriously. However, my husband really loved this trip.
