Description of Your Photo (Please use full sentences)
A girl reading a book while she waits for a friend at Place St Michel.
When Was the Photo Taken?
I like black-and-white street photography, so I went to a busy part of town to see if I could capture some moments of French life.
This image shows the unabashed intellectualism of the French, something that is absent from the Anglo-Saxon world.
It also captures the hectic Parisienne life and its inhabitants dislike of wasting time. I like how the girl came prepared to fill in any downtime in her day with something productive.
Tips and Tricks
- Set your camera up to shoot in black and white. If you have an SLR camera, shoot in RAW+JPG and you should be able to get the jpg (and the pic on your LCD display) to be in black and white, while still having the colour version in the RAW file. (On a Nikon, this is done through Set/Manage Picture Control).
Optional: What Camera and Settings Did You Use?
Nikon D90, 55-200mm lens, set up to shoot in black and white.
