Bank holidays in France mark either national celebrations (eg Bastille Day) or religious (primarily Catholic) occasions. Below is a list of legal French bank holidays in 2008 (excluding non-legal holidays like Ramadan, Hanukah, Valentine's Day, etc.)

  • January 1: New Year’s Day
  • March 24: Easter Monday
  • May 1: Labor Day
  • May 8: 1945 Victory
  • May 20: Ascension
  • May 30: Whit Monday (Pentecost)
  • July 14: Bastille Day
  • August 15: Assumption Day
  • November 1: All Saints Day
  • November 11: Armistice 1918
  • December 25: Christmas Day

Please take note: In Paris, major museums and monuments generally close on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but many attractions and restaurants close entirely or close early on other bank holidays as well. Make sure to check opening times and dates.
