With iconic Paris landmarks as the backdrop, around 40,000 runners hit the streets on Sunday, April 11th for the 34th Paris Marathon, one of Europe's most beloved long-distance running events.

22 year-old Tadesse Tola of Ethiopia, running in only the second marathon of his career, secured the win in the men's race with a time of 2:06:41. Defending women's champion, Ethiopian Atsede Bayisa, repeated her victory in the women's race with 2:22:04, breaking the record of 2:23:05 set by Belgian Marleen Renders in 2002.
