The Banks of the Seine in a Different Light

By , About.com Guide

Paris Plage (Paris Beach) 2007 marked the sixth year of an event that has become a natural part of the Paris summer landscape. Launched in 2002 by Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe, one of the objectives of Paris Plage was to make summer vacation accessible to families unable to afford getting out of town. Paris Plage is also a major draw card for visitors to the city of light, who will likely find the installation of sand, plalm trees, and lounging decks along the banks of the Seine an amusing prospect. With so many locals off from work in August and many others out of town, Paris Plage is at the center of a lighthearted, relaxed ambiance that you rarely find in Paris during other periods of the year.
