Runners are in the final stretch of the 40 kilometer/24.85 mile race, shown here at Porte d'Auteuil near the lush Bois de Boulogne (Boulogne Wood) in west Paris. The annual marathon took place in atypically warm and sunny conditions for the season-- defying the traditional French maxim En avril, ne te découvre pas d'un fil (In April, don't take off a single thread [of clothing].)

The winner of the 2007 marathon, Quatari citizen Mubarak Shami, finished the race in a breathless 2 hours, 7 minutes and 19 seconds.
