Every summer since 2002, a stretch alongside the Seine River in Paris is transformed into a makeshift beach boardwalk. Paris Plage, or Paris Beach, continued its success streak in 2010, with thousands of people heading to areas customarily swamped with cars to enjoy a slate of free activities: sunning or reading on chaises longues, sipping a drink at one of the beach's ephemeral cafes, enjoying a game of "petanque" or cooling off in mist baths.
