I generally recommend day trips in relatively close reach of Paris: Monet's gardens and house at Giverny, which we recently featured here at About.com Paris Travel
, or the sublime Chateau Vaux-le-Vicompte, Versailles' lesser-known predecessor palace. But many tour companies are now offering day-trip packages from Paris to relatively far-flung destinations such as Mont St-Michel and its breathtaking abbey, or the chateaus of the Loire Valley. We decided to give one such tour a try to report back on whether the experience is a rewarding and viable one, or simply exhausting. Contributor Nicole Smith reports back from what she described as an exhilarating, if too short, day at the UNESCO heritage site at Mont St-Michel.
