Semaine du Fooding in Paris (Paris Foodie Week)

Wednesday December 3, 2008

Ever wanted to taste creations from world-famous French chefs, but haven't been able to fork out the funds? Paris Foodie Week (the curiously franglais La Semaine du Fooding) is on! Every evening this week and through Saturday, top-notch chefs like Drouant's Antoine Westermann and Antony Clémot, Le Tour d'Argent's Stéphane Haissant and Taillevent's Alain Solivérès are regaling those who manage to reserve ahead with their gastronomic creations at relatively reasonable prices. It's not exactly a student-budget type of event, but die-hard foodies may consider the opportunity well worth the funds. This year's event focuses on culinary history and evolving tastes. Below are some of the main events and where to reserve:

  • "Little Gallery of Culinary Evolution":
This event takes guests through subtle changes in flavors and ingredients in classic French dishes, hosted by a different distinguished chef each evening. Tastings include wine and Saint Pellegrino sparkling water. The first 150 people in line will be admitted, and the event costs 10 Euros, with all proceeds going to charity Action Against Hunger.
Every day through Saturday December 5th, 7:00 pm
    Manufacture des Gobelins
6 rue Berbier du Mets, 13th arrondissement, Metro Gobelins

  • "Kitchens opening into History":
Several historically weighty Parisian restaurants, including La Tour d’argent, Lasserre, and Le Jules Verne, have opened their doors to offer full menus (complete with champagne) through Saturday at reasonable rates. Reservations a must.

  • Françomas dans le ventre de Paris (Ratatouille-inspired critic cooks!)
Francois Simon, celebrated (and feared) gastronomic critic who inspired the critic Anton Ego in Pixar's Ratatouille, will be taking to the kitchen to whip up a butter-accented menu that includes Breton specialties. Every day through Saturday, 8:00 pm. Reservations a must.
