Contador Wins Tour de France at Paris Finish Line
The 104th annual Tour de France bicycle race culminated Sunday afternoon on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, with Spaniard Alberto Contador coming in first place.
The 24-year old Contador, who is only the second Spanish cyclist in the Tour de France's century-old history to win the race, triumphed this year after suffering a brain aneurysm and collapsing while competing in the 2004 race.
This year's Tour has been riddled with controversy over top contenders taking dope to improve chances of victory. Three cyclists tested positive for dope, and Danish race leader Michael Rasmussen was disqualified after lying about his whereabouts during training.
In the midst of the scandal, French dailies like Libération and France Soir have issued scathing editorials condemning rampant drug use among cyclists, some going so far, reported Reuters, as to proclaim the beloved Gallic event "dead".
